All Saints Cathedral Church, designed by Sir William Emerson in 1871, is one of Prayagraj's most hallowed locations. In fact, it is regarded as one of Asia's greatest Anglican churches. This beautiful cathedral in Prayagraj is hailed as an architectural pleasure for visitors because of its outstanding architecture and magnificent marble altar. Pathar Girjaghat, which means "Church of Stones," is a common name for the church. The church commemorates its anniversary every year on November 1. Throughout the year, a large number of people visit this prominent tourist attraction in Prayagraj. On the days of Christmas, Easter, and Good Friday, however, the crowds are doubled.

Architecture

The Gothic architecture of All Saints Cathedral Church is stunning. The church's nave is approximately 130 feet long and 40 feet broad. However, the cathedral's overall length is 240 feet. The marble and glass craftsmanship of this prominent Christian holy landmark in Prayagraj is still well-preserved despite being almost a century old. There are other plaques in the chapel commemorating the deaths of various British citizens.

History

William Muir, the Lt. Governor of India's North-West Province, was the driving force behind the creation of this prominent religious place in Prayagraj. He gave the land for the cathedral to be built. His wife, Elizabeth Huntly Wemyss, lay the church's cornerstone in the year 1871. William Emerson (a British architect) was appointed to create the church, having previously designed Muir College and Crawford Market.
