Jain temple, Jaisalmer situated within the Jaisalmer fort is one of the central tourist attractions in Jaisalmer. The Jain temples have been constructed in the likeness of the Dilwara temples. The Jain temples possess the idols of the gods Rikhabdevji and Sambhavnathji.
The Jain temples were constructed in the 12th century. They are known for their exquisite work of art and architecture. The walls are built out of yellow sandstone and have intricate engravings on them. The Jain temples echo a sense of calm ans serenity. These temples are open to public viewing from the early hours of the morning to12 in the afternoon. The Gyan Bhandar library attached to one of the Jain temples is also another tourist spot within the fort. It is said to have been the storeroom of a large number of texts and ancient scripts. These texts tell the tale of the Jain temples.
One of the most splendid works of art is the Parswanath temple. The walls of this exquisite shrine is carved with the engravings of animals and humans. The dome of the temple is adorned by an Amalak and a beautiful water vase that contains a lotus. Due to antisocial insurgency the temple was under ruins but Seth Tharu Shah rebuilt it in the year 1615. The idol of Parshvanath lies within the iner region of the temple. This idol is built out of black stone having multiple hoods in the shape of serpents.
