Morni Hills, situated in Panchkula district of Haryana, is known for its Himalayan views, lakes and flora. The name of Morni is derived from queen who ruled the area. Its village is on mountainside at an altitude of 1220 meters. This place is ideal for rock climbing, trekking, boating and other adventure sports. February and March are best months for climbing hills and enjoying the lip-smacking prospects of trekking.
Mystery and history are something that attract tourists to this place. There are two large tals or lakes, which are interconnected mysteriously. Though these lakes are separated by hillock, but the water level of both these tals remain equal. Locals consider it sacred and gather there for ceremonial occasions. There’s a small temple of Trimurti which dates back to 12th AD.
Some places of interest in Morni are, Old Fort, 3 manmade lakes, Trimurti temple, Mandhana Cliff, Gurudwara Nada Sahib and Adenture park. The teeming population of birds such as doves, sand grouse and quails, and animals including hyenas, jackals, jungle cat and sambhars, makes this place paradise for birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts. The best time for bird watching is September to December.
