The sacred and tranquil Pushkar Lake is located in the town of Pushkar in Ajmer district of Rajasthan. Considered the king of water-body pilgrimage sites, a holy dip here is revered as per Hindu scriptures particularly on KartikPurnima. Devotees visiting here are aware of the vast religious significance attached to the act of bathing in the ghat of the lake and doing a parikrama (circumambulation) of the three lakes there.
Semi-circular in shape with a depth of 8-10 meters, the Pushkar Lake is enormous with 52 bathing ghats and over 400 temples around the precincts. At present, the Lake is under the patronage and protection of the royal families of Rajasthan.
