‘Saheliyon Ki Bari’ literally meaning ‘Garden of Maids ‘is located 3 kmsto the north of the famous city of Udaipur in Rajasthan. It is one of the major and most popular tourists’ attraction in Udaipur. The garden is situated on the banks of FatehSagar Lake and is a good example of combination of English and Indian styles of architecture.
Saheliyon Ki Bari was built by Maharana Sangram Singh II in 1710, as a small, decorated and attractive garden for recreation and enjoyment for his queen and her young 48 women attendants, who came along as a part of her dowry to Udaipur. The garden is extremely beautiful and famous for its well-designed lush green lawns, fountains and marble art. The fountains are wonderfully ornamented with marble elephants, lotus, carved kiosks and marble pavilions.
These fountains were imported that time from England. The varieties of Flowers is large and delighting. In addition to the charming garden, there is also a museum here which exhibits good collection of royal items, stuffed cobras, royal paintings and, pictures. The overall surrounding and layout of the garden invites scores of tourists dropping in Udaipur to visit this place.The winter months from October to March are the best time to visit Udaipur.
