Taj-ul-Masjid is a famous mosque in the royal city of Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. It was constructed during the reign of Bahadur Shah Zafar and supervised Nawab Shah Jahan in the years between 1844 to 1901. It’s the largest mosque in Bhopal and can accommodate 175,000 peoples at one point of time. It has an interior area of about 430,000 square feet and considered the second largest mosque in Asia.
Taj-ul-Masjid is admired as much for its religious significance as for its architecture and remains a major attraction in the city. Built with red stone and situated by the lake of MotiaTalab, the mosque has two minarets and three domes and its architecture style is similar to that of the world-renowned Jama Majid of Delhi. For years, it’s an important place in the city and attracts a big number of tourists and locals alike.
The Taj-ul-Masjid means ‘The Crown of Mosques’ and it’s used for Islamic school of the day time. It is a jewel in the crown of the city and remains a big attraction for history and architecture lovers. October to March are the best time to visit this place and no fee is charged here from tourists. It’s just 3 km away from the railway station and reaching here is not a problem.
