Located at the distance of 30 KM from Derwan on Mumbai-Goa highway, Walavalkar Shivaji Museum is dedicated to life of great Maratha ruler, Shivaji. Built by social worker Sitrambuva Walawalkar, about crore rupees were spent to build this museum. It took 15 years to build this museum which depicts the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji in the form of statues and pictures.
Walavalkar Shivaji Museum is a great place both for children and adults to learn historical happenings. The sculptures here are painted with emotions which are applauded by visitors. The Shivaji riding horse and coronation of Shivaji are some of the notable statutes in this museum. Travelers can reach here by bus, train or can hire a cab or taxi.
The various other places near Walavalkar Shivaji Museum to visit are Marleshwar temple and Chiplun only. In a day, it is possible to visit museum only but not rest of Chiplun because it is few turns away from highway. Best time to visit this place is between June and September. The first half of September is best and winters are also ideal to visit. For the foodies, there is café just behind museum where one can eat snacks and food which is good place to eat.
