To go beyond the history and take a piece of the prehistoric Jurassic era, you need to be at the Wood Fossil Park – some 15 km off Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. Once here, you get to a place that still has remains as old as 180 million years! You visit this fossil park where the forest once submerged in to the sea and took the shape of fossils.
Once you visit the Wood Fossil Park, you can see fossil trunks lie strewn all over this amazing park. Stretching over an area of 10 square km with 21 hectare preserved area, the park has fossilized tree trunks of different sizes where the largest one has 13 meter length and 1.5 meter width. Situated along the bare hillside, visitors here can get to see and feel amazed at 25 petrified trunks.
The Wood Fossil Park is nothing less than a wonder for those interested in exploring the gems from the prehistoric site. It’s also an ideal place for conservationists or geologists as they can come here and explore and study the remains, but not without prior permission.
