The complex of Banaras Hindu University is one of the greatest sites to visit in Varanasi, with great architecture, a gorgeous location, and lush flora. Banaras Hindu University, formerly known as Central Hindu College, is a prominent educational institution as well as a major tourist attraction in Varanasi. The institution was built in 1916 by Madan Mohan Malviya and spans a wide area of 1300 acres of land. History

The establishment of Banaras Hindu University was the brainchild of Madan Mohan Malviya, a well-known lawyer and nationalist activist. BHU is the first university in India to be founded by the efforts of a private individual. The work to create the university, on the other hand, began long before it was founded. Madan Mohan announced his plan to create a university at the Indian National Congress's 21st congress at Benares in December 1908. For the following few years, he remained committed to his goal of establishing the institution. He then petitioned for a royal charter founding the institution in 1907. His application, however, received no response from the British government. In the year 1911, he founded the Hindu University Society to raise finances for the university's development. Madan Mohan Malviya had a terrific year in 1915 when the Imperial Legislative Council approved the bill to create Banaras Hindu University. Finally, the year 1916 saw the establishment of BHU.

Architecture

BHU is located on land provided by the last Brahmin ruler of Kashi, Prabhu Vibhuti Narayan Singh, in the city's southern outskirts. The entire campus is laid out in a semicircle with plenty of vegetation and well-paved roadways. Inside Banaras Hindu University, the architecture of the buildings is remarkable Indo-Gothic style. Aside from that, there are more than 60 hostels that house around 12000 students. Aside from it, the complex has a library, a hospital, and a museum.
