Kovalam, in southern Indian state of Kerala, is a beautiful beach town located along the Arabian Sea in the capital town of Thiruvananthapuram. A prominent tourist spot of the hippy era, it attracts hordes of tourists from as far as Europe and Israel for its Ayurvedic salons, beach resorts and most importantly for the renowned Kovalam Beach.
The Kovalam Beach, some 16 kms away from the capital town of Trivandrum, remains, by far, the most popular and most visited attraction here. The beach catches the attention for its immense natural beauty and many nearby beach resorts. Apart from natural beauty of the beach and its pristine water, tourists also enjoy funs acts of swimming, sunbathing, long walks, magical sunsets, going in the sea with fisherman and therapeutic Ayurvedic massages.
Eve's beach and Lighthouse beach are two parts of the Kovalam Beach wherein the former is a semi circular beach with lined up palm trees while the latter has the famous lighthouse, operational since the times of the British rule. Another popular attraction is the sea port of Vizhinjam - at 10 minutes drive off Kovalam- which delights for its fish species, old Hindu temples and ancient churches.
The Trivandrum or Thiruvananthapuram airport, at 10 kms away, is the nearest airport that links Kovalam to rest of India.
