The Ranthambore National Park, deriving its name from the pictorial fort inside, is one of India's most prestigious national parks. Located where the Vindhyas' Aravali Range and plateau meet, Ranthambore National Park was once the hunting grounds of the Jaipur royals. Also the national park is considered a prominent heritage site because of the ancient ruins found inside it.
The city of Sawai Madhopur is the gateway to the national park with a thriving biodiversity set between ancient religious structures, several man-made lakes and aesthetically-crumbling cenotaphs.
Though flanked to the north by the Banas River and to the south by the Chambal River, the many lakes inside are not fed by any of the waters of the rivers. A national park with a focus on the protection of the endangered tiger was declared in 1980, and adjacent forests were merged with the Ranthambore National Park a little over a decade later. The Sawai Man Singh Sanctuary and Kaldevi Sanctuary became part of the tiger reserve making the Ranthambore National Park one of the largest in India.
You're bound to be enthusiastic about watching the beautiful tiger roam in the wild in its natural habitat! The Ranthambore National Park is recognized as one of the best places in the country to spot tigers, alternating between dry deciduous forests and swathes of grasslands. Today, spreading over a little over 1,300 square kilometers including the core and buffer area, the Ranthambore National Park is a wildlife enthusiast, a photographer, and a haven for a spirited traveler.
