Sasan-Gir or the Gir Forest National Park is to be found in the Indian state of Gujarat. Spread crosswise an area of 1412 square km, this sanctuary was recognized in 1965 to protect the declining population of lions. Today, it is the merely place where Asiatic Lions can be found, and that makes it one of Asia's mainly significant protected areas.

The Gir National Park experiences a tropical monsoon climate with immense hot and humid conditions through the summer months of May to August. The sanctuary remains closed to visitors throughout the summer months. At a distance since being the just home of the solitary Asiatic Lions, it also has a variety of further type of flora and fauna which give it a rich variety.

It is predictable that this set aside in Gujarat has in excess of 38 species of mammals, around 300 species of birds and 2000 bug species. Of the mammals, the Asiatic Lion was counted at 411 some years back.

Different efforts have been undertaken by the government and nature enthusiasts to protect the exceptional species of lion. One of these efforts has been setting up of the Lion propagation programme. Under this program, propagation centres for the Asiatic lion have been group in a variety of parts of the state to boost their population. The centre also studies the behaviour of the Asiatic Lion and carries out higher studies on this lion species.

The concentrated efforts have reaped rich dividends by the inhabitants of Asiatic lions increasing from 15 in 1990 to over 400 currently. Though, this has posed a new problem for the authorities. Now, lots of believe that the Gir National Park is overpopulated and a part of the lion population have to be relocated to a different place.

A trendy site which was suggested for this plan is the Palpur-Kuno Wildlife Sanctuary. This sanctuary, deceitful 65 km away from the generous state of Junagadh, does not have well elected tourist areas. To defeat this problem and to guard the ecosystem of the area, explanation zones have been set up to allow tourists to get near to nature as still protecting the wildlife.

The rich flora and fauna of the region and the chance of spotting one of the rarest kind of lions attracts many tourists every year to Sasan-Gir.
