Nubra is tri-armed valley located in the North east side of Ladakh valley and was originally known as Ldumra, which means valley of flowers. It is counted among the sub-districts of Ladakh. The Shyok river, tributary of Indus River, meets Nubra or Siachen river to form valley that separates Karakoram and Ladakh ranges. With Siachen Glacier on its north, it is high altitude cold desert.
Nubra Valley has an average altitude of 10, 000 ft (3048 meters). The scenic view of landscapes, mountains and Shyok River is breathtaking at first sight. Apart from all this, to get joie-de-vivre, don’t forget to ride Bacterian camels over sand dunes in the village known as Hunder. To acclimatize, climb high altitude of Khardung La and then sit at low altitude of Nubra valley which is really an astonishing experience.
The various places to visit in Nubra valley are Diskit, Hunder, Sumur, Panamik and Turtuk. The villagers produce horticulture crops, fruits and dry fruits, including barley, wheat, peas, mustard, apples, walnuts, almond and apricots.
