"Sindhu Ghat" is a gorgeous riverbank, near the village of Shey in Leh. It is famous for its unique, beautiful scenery, consisting of steep mountains, rocky terrain, dense greenery and the Sindhu River. The Sindhu River, known in English as "Indus," comes near Tibet's Mansarovar Lake and crosses Indian land before it joins Pakistan. The river belongs to seven of the country's major sacred rivers. The river is renowned as a cultural institution and a symbol of peace and unity, in addition to its religious importance.
This bank of the river is the venue of the Ladakh Singhey Khabab Spring Festival as a famous cultural event. Celebrated annually for Guru Purnima, the auspicious day of full moon, the three-day festival takes place in June. It is dedicated to the sacred river, where people from both surrounding and remote regions participate. It starts with a ritual that takes place along the banks of the river by 50 Buddhist lamas. Cultural programmes, followed by a short tour, campfire and get-together, will be organized in the venue. During the third day the river is worshiped by a religious act called Sindhu Pujan.
Besides the famous festival venue, Sindhu Ghat is a suitable river rafting destination. This river's gurgling waters are a perfect opportunity for exciting activities.
